Gigs up for Switzerland and Poland.  Hmm, Poland it's a weekend.  Can I???  Will have to think about.  Just before I go on holiday.  Come on Bob get some more UK festivals up there in the South East.

So where was my mailing to say that the gigs were going up?

Hi Jukes

Its frustrating for us too. We dont mail out until we have some details, which we dont yet.  All we know is the date and country etc.  when the details are forthcoming, we will of course post it on the news section and the front page of the site.

Thanks

Tina

It's good to see that Bob is still touring after what happened last year. Another gig here would be nice. I was at Lionel Richie last night so I have the concert bug at the minute smile

A lot of them will probably be cancelled. cry

Right now I'm only planing to go to a Rolling Stones Concert in Budapest, but I'm not sure that I want to buy a ticket for a Geldof concert.

Aside from the Italy fiasco, non-UK European gigs seem to be pretty successful.  Well maybe not Denmark.    It will be interesting to see what happens in Poland..  Turkey?  weirdface

I suspect they are festival appearances (Like Hay) or freebies (Like Dubai).  Who'd pay to see Geldof in his own right given the disdain he has shown. The last UK tour was probably the most dates he played in a single country for a long time, just a shame most of the proposed dates were cancelled.

It was only because the press latched onto the cancelled Italian gigs anyone noticed, and he had to grovel and come back and do another show.  The residents of London (postponed, but no new date yet - nor will there ever be one), Boulder, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Skegness, Aarburg, Freiburg, Tuttlingen, Ludwigsburg and Munich amongst many were never offered an alternative date.  I'd never buy a Geldof ticket in advance.  Cancellations are par for the course.

very sad that concert in Skegness had to be cancelled -very rare to get major artists here - hope future will allow rescheduling - Midge ure did local theatre recently in spilsby to an appreciative audience which bob would love.

Was anyone going to the Boulder show Friday?
If so, were you called by theatre management?
And were you told Bob canceled due to personal reasons.
What the F*@#*'s going on inside his head.

Hmm OK, point taken.

He had to re do the Italian gigs because a few of us actually travelled out there - well just the 2 of us to Rome!

I guess not everyone is like me and will take the risk of buying more tickets - once bitten twice shy and all that.

It's such a shame when he does play the gigs are absolutely brilliant really well received by the audience.cry  The atmosphere is fantastic and Bob and the band love it as much as the crowd.cry

If the press were not there to witness the whole debacle, there would have been no re doing of the concerts.

Normally, they get cancelled a few days ahead, but if I remember rightly some people had made plans to come to the Shepherds Bush gig.  And from further afield than yourself (though they did get a lovely unplanned trip to Leicester, those lucky Canadians!).  Had the press got wind of that, what odds on Geldof doing an MTV special in the UK?  Or even Canada?

Once bitten?  If Geldof was a dog (Perhaps, Bobby Geldog biggrin)  he'd have been put down long ago.

I don't know about all the cancellations, but I know the Shepherd's Bush gig was not selling well (a little insider info; Jukes (sic), I did warn you at the time!), and though Geldof could have potentially played an alternative smaller venue (not sure it was offered, but there were alternatives available), it was decided to simply cancel (or "postpone") and leave the 200 or so fans who had bought tickets high and dry.

Such a shame the reporters on the cancelled Italian gigs didn't dig a little deeper and expose Geldof's propensity to cancel concerts.  Geldof likes the big parade, but sadly there aren't enough people willing to attend, so he pi$$e$ on those who do buy the tickets.  He should offer to do a free gig to all of those who have bought tickets to cancelled gigs down the years, not just the 45 who went to Rome (most of which were on freebies through Happy Fan Club Italia!)

<ArrGee walks away, and waits for the inevitable backlash.......>

Facts straight please ArrGee.  45 people who bought tickets for Milan, 2 people who actually turned up a Rome (who were together - me and my partner).biggrin  And I think all the tickets were possibly freebies through Italian Happy Fan Club.  Especialy given the fact that when I tried to buy tickets I couldn't and was told there was no way of me buying them from the UK.weirdface

I can't say I'm going to give you any backlash as I've had around half a dozen concerts cancelled on me.  I would be prepared to give the benefit of the doubt though if I was given a few more facts.  At this side of things it is hard to see what that might be.

The Shepherd's Bush business was odd, 200 tickets sold?  Should have gone to Wimbledon after all.

Ok,  I got the venues the wrong way round, but less than 45 people bought tickets as there were almost all freebies.  45 people turned up in Milan.

The sales in Denmark were worse, just 36 for each show!
http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=48603&p=3&topicID=8052977

The sales for Shepherd's Bush would have been good for a smaller venue like the 100 Club or the Mean Fiddler, with the likelihood of more people turning up on the night.

Maybe I was premature in saying Geldof would never play again, the truth is I'll never pay again (nor will anyone else unless it is part of a festival)

<though truth be told I only once paid to see the Rats!  I always managed to get guest passes for most of my gigs back then - well connected >

I'll pay again, so not completely true, ArrGee.  Although I know the risks!  As long as I can get my money back, now I view that if he plays it's a bonus.cry

You're very forgiving. Luckily, touch wood, I've never had a concert cancelled by any artist & I've been to alot so I do count myself lucky. I remember last year myself & a few friends were going to go to The Killers but we left it too late to book tickets & they were sold out. Then the gig was cancelled so I reakon it was a sign! smile

Likewise, I've never had a concert cancelled or rearranged on me (though often end up with spare tickets when I wish it was cancelled).  And it's not likely to happen to me in the future, as I have stopped going to gigs (famous last words).

Under certain circumstances, I could accept it.   If they were ill or not allowed in the country then fair enough, but not because the artist hadn't sold enough tickets.

It should be like football fixtures.  Even if you are out of all the competitions by March, you have to go on and play the remaining games.  I'd be quite happy if Arsenal cancelled the rest of the season and gave me a refund.

You know that I am totally addictedbiggrin.

The only gig I've had rearranged on me was the Stones - they changed the date to the next day - when a certain gent of a certain age fell out of his tree.wink  He probably was already out of his tree.

Otherwise it is just Geldof gigs cancelled/postponed etc.  So yes I'm probably completely nuts, but I would buy tickets again and just hopeweirdface.

They are Music Festivals.

Bob Geldof : 1-2 wrzenia 2007 - Warszawa (festiwal  "Muzyka z oblonego miasta") / Lubin (festiwal "Do wolnoci")
There are several pages in Polish on the web, but the online translations are dreadful.

The point I was trying to make (albeit unsuccessfully) is that Geldof won't ever stage a concert in his own right again, so no one will have the opportunity to pay to see him.  You will get a ticket for the festival, but not the individual.

The appearance at the Hay festival is as close as you will get to buying a ticket for a Geldof gig.  However, if he wasn't to appear, the organisers would simply draft in a replacement.

Going to see a specific act at a festival is a risky business.  Acts pull out, get put down the bill, are placed onto different stages or just get replaced.  You can get lucky like when Pulp replaced the Stone Roses at Glastonbury, though if you had wanted to see the Stone Roses you may think differently.

The odd thing about festivals these days is people buy the tickets without knowing who is appearing.  Glastonbury sold out in 90 minutes, yet Michael Eavis could decide to put on anything.

From an artist's point of view festivals are easy.  No need to do any promotion, just turn up and play.  And even if everyone is in the beer tent, you still get your dosh!

Sorry to contradict you ArrGee, but last year he played in Germany and people came (and paid!) especially to see him. One was a festival but I think you had to buy the tickets individually for each day. At least two others were Geldof only and not parts of festivals. I think the same was true for one or two shows in Austria.

I also remember seeing Scottie post some correspondence she had with the Hay people and they quoted a one off price for Bob's gig.  They obviously see Bob as an attraction in his own right.

And I'm so glad you were wrong that Bob wouldn't play again for him and us.biggrin

It's good to hear of some successes for a change, where else has Bob actually played recently and sold out?   We've done the cancellation thing now let's focus on the actual gigs.smile

£17 for Bob's gig, booking essential. Tel. no. is now on info, or you can book through the Hay website. I think he is also speaking, but I can't download their programme successfully. It is a good indicator that at Cartagena he sang some new, unrecorded ones. Still some there for a new album  maybe? Anyone going to Hay, please ask him.

Basel is a Geldof-only gig. That venue looks pretty big though...
I admit, I have already looked up flights to and hotels in Basel, but I'm not going to book anything yet.
I'm still hoping for German festival dates!

Unrecorded songs is very hopeful for a new album.  He's playing them so I guess he has plans for them in some respect.biggrin exciting is that!!!

I also read there was an unrecorded song played in Dubai (though from the account I read it sounded like Scream in Vain).  However without set lists it's not possible to confirm if they were new songs or if (as I suspect) simply less well known songs that the reporter believed to be new.
