Is the media dominated by too few celebs?

I know the BIG news has to be about people that everyone knows for it to sell.  They all do it of course papers with tit tat about celebs, photos etc. etc.  Many shows are hosted by the same old faces etc.  And lets face it us Brits watch a tonne of TV!  Is it a bit unhealthy to see the same old faces time and time again?

In my opinion the viewing statistics speak for themselves. eg. X-Factor - I mean what a phenonomally popular show! and guess what?? It really does appear that its general joe Bloggs that we just love to see on telly!

Wouldn't it be great if we had local community tv stations where more people would get more chance to perform, do plays, films, animation, all by local people!  We could have soaps set in local towns to us, if not our own towns.  And I believe this would encourage more of a community spirit in our towns, boroughs, cities and villages.  It might encourage more people to visit local community centres once they've seen them on tv or to see local plays etc.  Great way to advertise too.

Your thoughts?     (btw I know I can't spell phenonomally! - too lazy to look it up in dic. smile.gif)

Over to you....

Is this a great idea or what?

Not if all the celebrity shows are anything to go by.  There are 10 celebrities I have never heard of on Big Brother (oh and Vinnie Jones).  There seem to be 1000s out there.

Thing is they have local festivals/pantomimes etc. where local people do perform and I enjoy them in the main.  Thing is not enough people are talented enough in a small area. At the last festival we had there were some pretty dire acts.  Anyway YouTube fills most of this rather than TV.   It's better to go out of your front door and see things in theatres/fields.
