The Factory in Manchester (the famous HQ of Factory Records) and Fibbers in York.

The gigs are on Friday and Saturday nights at cool all-standing venues right in the city centres.

Tickets should be on sale soon.

Also a gig TBC near to Antwerp.

Good to see some bookings turning up in places like Manchester and York as they are more likely to attract a decent sized crowd rather than the "village fete" type places. Not than I'm knocking smaller town venues.

A "Banana Republic" type tour of Ireland might go down well with lots  political disaffection with the mismanagement of Ireland's economy. Elections upcoming around March.

On more than one occasion I've heard the phrase "banana republic" being bandied about and I'm sure if ex Boomtown Rats turned up for concerts they would get some publicity.

On the other hand perhaps Gary and Simon have been out of Ireland for so long they may not feel qualified to comment on Ireland's economic woes.

Maybe the band could end up on the Late Late Show as the host Ryan Tubridy has played songs by the Boomtown Rats on more than one occasion on his radio show and I think he is a fan. I suppose music is all down to good promotion and management, but ultimately what the band themselves want.

ok have just checked em thanks suss!

i will prolly go to the york one cos my mate reckons better place to see and he says that manchester is just another city and well hes gonna be my travelling buddy.......however.... i reckon i quite fancy the rats....haha just joking....what i meant to say is i quite fancy seeing manchester still....... just curious about the city.... so anyway i may make both, we shall see.........

i guess i am rapidly becoming offical member of the RATPACK hehe ;0)

hmm can't decide between man and york, don't think i will do both, cos i dont lik etoo much travelling, prefer stress free more laid back affair lol rushing around from city to city is just toomuch for me i'm afriad, guess i'm gettin old ;0)

Does anyone know if Manchester is still "Madchester" or are all the culprits ie Shaun Ryder Bez etc in mental institutions.

Shaun Ryder turned up at the Gorillaz gig in Manchester on the dvd in a right state,  totally zonked out, keeping in character. Ryder managed to get through his song Dare and it was a classic performance but he was totally gone, as they say.

York has interesting Viking architecture and ruins for those interested in such matters, like me! Hours of fun in the museums.

York is a lovely place to visit, a lovely old city with some good sights to see and places of interest.  Not a bad decision.  Although it has been over 20 since I last went to Manchester properly (other than a conference and didn't get a chance to go in to the city) I think you've picked the better one of the two.  No offence to Mancunians!
