And as for 2010 the only ones I know are Shout and Heroes from the originals.
Of course if I go back to 1970s I know every song! Sadly in too many cases - I fcuking hate Save Your Kisses for Me and that sh!te Seasons in the Sun. He still ain't dead! And don't get me started on turdish Billy, Don't Be a Hero.....
The only way I hear (as opposed to actively listen to ) pop music nowadays is what I'd loosely term "public place spillage" eg shops, car radios, shopping centres, too loud ipods on strangers, pub jukeboxes or whatever they are called nowadays.
Must have overheard that" Now you're in New York, New York" hundreds of times in the last year. Also that song Tonighs Gonna Be a Good Good Night. Presume these songs all got to number one. Also anything by Lady GaGa eg Pokerface on braindead Irish radio, between the interminable ads and irritating dj's. Rap just puts me in a bad mood.
Like football teams I can remember from the late seventies nowadays I cant tell what Slovak or Latvian is playing for whatever team. You get to a point where you don't really care that much.
Everyhit UK gives the full top forty for any particular week - just search the retro chart section for say first week in May 1978 or 2nd week in March 1980. Always throws up lots of songs I had forgotten about so can be good fun.
Fresh from my addition to guilty pleasures post about uncool favourites I need to restore some cred and add that I'm not too bad on current hits and artists, due to demands of fairly regular DJing at parties which invariably need 'some chart stuff'. So would get Empire State of Mind - Alicia Keys/JayZ (the 'now you're in NewYork' track) and the Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling in a pop quiz no problem.
Returning to topic though, I'd really struggle with chart positions as there seem to be so many charts (one per radio station??) and even if they do hit number one it's invariably in one chart and not another, and only for a week tops in about 75% of cases it seems.
Don't think radio or the artists themselves judge by the 'official' UK charts anymore. Hardly ever hear radio DJs say and here's the current number one. You're lucky if they manage to name track and/or artist half the time.

Same here, maybe out by 96. Wish I had a time machine and could go back to 75 to 85. I would be prepared to put up with Figaro if only to experience all the thrill of the Rats smashing 78!
