wonders who the guests are, maybe bob geldof himself taking a peek at random posts here and there or maybe the queen even, maybe cameron manages to steal a few moments away from propping up the monstorous machine and comes on here to have a peruse around.

Maybe the tabloid press looking to write another story full of gossip...

...not that I have ever seen one originating from here.

I suspect most of the guests are posters who haven't logged in and google bots.  There are a few lurkers out there, but not that many.

As much as I'd like to believe that, it doesn't tally with the number of reads on particular topics, a thousand or so views is a large as it ever gets and that's over a elongated period.

In these days of twitter, forums are a bit passé.  One of the better things about this forum is it is slow enough to allow a bit of considered debate.

There are other forums, such as the Arsenal one I visit, where you need to respond rapidly otherwise the subject has gone off the page.

A few more posters would be nice.  It would save people having to read just my rantings.

These days I have less and less to rant about.

But a couple of things have annoyed me in the last few days.

i) My Credit Card zero interest period ended without me realising it, they changed the duration from 13 to 15 months at some point, so I still thought I had a month left.  However, it expired a month ago so I have just ended up paying 1.5% on the considerable balance disbelief

ii) The new One Direction/JLS/Saturdays CDs.  I went into HMV today and these cheeky b'stards have released their albums with different covers for each of their members.  Thank fcuk none of my kids care for this sh!te.  The music industry deserves its fate.  No wonder everyone downloads.

ah sorry to hear about your credit card interest

on subject of jls CDS i'm a fraid i do not comprehendez, the CDs have all got different covers?  thats really bad, i'm quite frankly disgusted.

actually i dont really understand the post, why is it so terrible?

for some reason it is making me laugh out loud though, so well done, cos i'm hacked off about life itself, about slavery to the machine.

who makes up the rules anyway? why do we all submit to the monster? why do we let it be so powerful? why do we all believe it when it grips us and tells us we're crap and unintelligent and that only people from the right establishments can be prime minister.

Some day, probably not too far ahead Facebook and Twitter will seem passe and old fashioned- such is the way things 'progress' on the Internet.

Forums tend to go into more detail whereas Twitter seems to be full of banal short messages and have the attention span of a goldfish. The debates seem more substantial, from my somewhat limited experience in these media.

I do find the football forums tend to be very short ranging in a lot of their dealings, granted that football is all about the last/next game rather than taking a longer view.

I suppose forums, Facebook, Twitter et al all have their strong points. Twitter seems to be responsible for what I call 'update neurosis' -unless we know what friends and family are up to almost every hour we start to 'worry'. People seem to be zoned out of real life into a world of trivial message exchange.

Of course the Boomtown Rats forum is the exception to this rule!

Facebook is dying.  Lots of people are getting off it as they now realise it is an easy way for employers/authorities/criminals to check on you.  Likewise LinkedIn.  I have a minimal presence on facebook, just so I can get meal offers off Prezzo, but I have taken most of the photographs off.

Twitter has it uses when things start to happen, but I have to confess I don't really bother with it.

Didn't "Do It Yourself" by Dury & Blockheads get about 48 different wallpaper cover options?? May be out on the numbers but I do recall even then in my obsessive Rats collecting all formats days that I was very grateful not to be a fan of Blockheads in same way.

Plus ca change...

Yes, I didn't care too much for that either.  If anyone is looking for 48 copies of DIY.....*

I do resist various formats.  I only got 7" up to SLAY when I got the 12".  Then back to 7" until House on Fire when I only got the 12".  Charmed Lives had a double single which I got ahead of the 12" and for ITLG all 12" (bar the ticket version of Dave).

I have gone back and got the odd 12" (No.1 + Drag Me Down Special Edition), but normally one version did.

A few years ago bands had this habit of doing 3 editions of a single for a fiver, so I have umpteen versions of the same song.  Pulp's Something Changed also did the same tracklisting/different cover, but I only got one.  But I did tend to only get one CD or later when it was revived one vinyl single.
