BONO shocked the organisers of last night's (23FEB06) NME Awards in London by delivering a tirade of four-letter words.

The U2 frontman was introducing SIR BOB GELDOF, who won the Hero Of The Year Award, when he uttered the word 'f**k' a staggering 14 times.

He said, "Bob Geldof has told me to f**k off perhaps hundreds, maybe thousands of times," before repeating the profanity over and over again.

He concluded by saying, "Thank you very much for this award and to my friend who is picking it up in all our honour - f**k off."

At least justice prevaled & the right person won the award. I wonder was Pete Doherty there. Think I might have to watch it tonight on the box..

I don't understand why NME were "surprised" by Bono's speech, it was a video so he wasn't there and surely they could have watched it first.

It was actually the best bit on the show.  The rest of it was awful.  They cut to Bob's face a few times and it looked like he was puzzled by it just as much as I was.  So many of them there didn't appear to know how to behave in public and a lot appeared to be drunk.  Just my opinion of course

Was Bob puzzled with the rest of the show or with Bono's speech?

I don't think he was puzzled by Bono's speech, but the show in general.

Surely they must have viewed the video first?

Well, not quite a video link, but...

Presenter: “Now to introduce our next winner we have a special guest, live via satellite orbitting his own ego…”

Bono: “You see, different people have differing abilities to get across the drama, the tension, the percussive qualities of the word ‘****’. I’ve tried, but I’m but a student. I’m not fit to touch the hem of this master of the word ‘****’: my friend Bob.”

“You see, from his lips it’s onomatopoeia, it’s a poetic device, it’s tragic comedy, it’s violence AND compassion. Bob Geldof has told me to **** off perhaps hundreds, maybe even thousands of times. The same for Richard Curtis, the same for everybody in Make Poverty History.”

“”Fuck ****, **** ****. Fuck **** **** off,” he said. I’m so very pleased that upon asking Bob to do Live 8, we did not listen when he told us to **** off. And I hope he is too. Because a cheque worth 50 billion dollars has been signed for the poorest people on the planet. Signed but not cashed. Every time somebody buys one of these Live 8 DVDs we’ll put pressure on the politicians to cash the cheque. Thank you very much for this award. And to my friend who is picking it up in all our honour:… Fuck. Off.”

I have to admit I cheated & recorded it & then fast forwarded it to Bob & Bono. It was funny except when the wanker of a presenter made the 'joke' about Bob knowing all about famine as he has lived off Mondays for the last 20 years. I was not amused & by the look on Bobs face I don't think he was either. As for Pete Doherty getting Sexiest man... I don't think so...But well done to our Bob,

The NME having to give Bob an award!

RATFLMAO!

Oh, it must have been the worst night of the sad buggers' lives, after 30 odd years of slagging off virtually everything he's done. I do how Tony Parsons & Julie Burchill were there, pulling their pigtails out & screaming "why can't it be Joe?!"

Comedian's barbs cause Saint Bob to lose his halo

Bob Geldof, whose foul-mouthed rant against some newspapers at the British Press Awards caused much bad blood, has shown that he can dish it out but can’t take it. The occasion was the ShockWaves NME Awards on Thursday, enlivened by pointed quips from comedian Russell Brand, who hosted the ceremony. But they didn’t amuse the sainted Bob, who, upon accepting an award for Live 8, said to Russell: “You’re a c***.” To which Russell replied, once Geldof had left the stage: “No wonder Bob Geldof is such an expert on famine. He’s been dining out on I Don’t Like Mondays for 30 years.” Ouch.
