Just heard that one of the greatest singer's/song writer's to come out of England has passed away God bless you David Bowie. Your songs will live forever
My youngest brother was/is massively into Bowie, so growing up Bowie meant a lot in out house.Sent him a text just now about Breaking Glass, my favorite Bowie song.
Surely Bowie was the most influential British artist of all time. Great coverage on Bbc 5 live all morning and some great interviews with Peter Hook on RTE radio 1. Nice tribute too from Marc Almond, Placebo and a host of others on the radio this morning.
Can't think of any indie/alt act that hasn't been touched by Bowie in some way, Rats included.
Can highly recommend listening to Marc Riley's unedited 20 minute interview with Bowie from 2004 about an hour into last night's Tom Robinson Show. Marc sounded like he'd been beaten up on Monday night, so it's lovely to hear him just having a giggle with DB. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06whk5g
No I don't read it, it came up my Geldof google report. Normally, I'd pass it by, but today I looked. It pained me to post it, but was actually very interesting.
It's a disturbing paper mostly, being small-minded and biased. Rarely, it runs noble stories like its investigation into Stephen Lawrence's killers but mainly it often seriously offends. As recently as 1993, it ran the headline 'Abortion hope after gay gene found' or words to that effect.
It tells those who buy it mostly what they want to read.
This article was an interesting one about Bob on Bowie - forget the rest. Back on topic. I was never fortunate enough to meet David Bowie. Did anyone else?
he's got a bloody fantastic laugh. I don't think I heard him laugh before, til it happened in my mind.
contagious laugh.
such a beautiful voice, speaking as well as singing voice.
so sexy too.
my mum says he had a fling with jagger. my mum says jagger is a tart. but I dont' blame him (jagger).
jean genie is currently my fave song. but my fave will change from time to time.
is that fickle? lol..
I been playing bowie songs over and over........ I'm almost sick/high on bowie.
strangest sensation of him being around me for some days after his passing. I can't think why. as if he's visit me. course not. power of the imagination eh?
rip bowie
it's been since you died I feel I've really recognised you for who you were.
It took some days to sink in after he died. then I found myself having a cry. It came from out the blue. I didn't understand why for sure. I wondered if I was just picking up on the sadness of loved ones close to him left behind. like an empath would. but then I thought, no, it's more at the beauty of someone whose gone, who I never met. that sheer beauty of a human spirit. I felt touched, moved. I realised, throughout my life. and there and then, as I felt his spirit so close.
if he really was there with me, then the reasons for his visitation, I decided, were possibly a number of things;
1. I'm a medium (I don't charge money for it)
2. as with any medium I am also psychic (but this bit is perhaps irrelevant here just now)
3. I lived in penge at one time when I worked in Beckenham, which is where bowie used to live.
4. I am not far from Brixton now. which is where he was born.
5. he was interested in mysticism. and he came to witness mediumship. in other words I can hear dead people.
yeh I know some people will think I'm a freak. but I don't charge money. probably never will do. and mediumship is something that will always be only a part of my life and not the whole, as I've lots of other interests too. and lets face it, people think ya bonkers when ya go on about this stuff. and some people just find it plain creepy and unnerving.
thoughts going through my head: wonder what the band must think of me? do they all sit there in their dressing rooms talking about me saying things like 'silly cow',
lol...
or 'joan who???
or ffs talk to the silly old cow bob, put the woman out her misery and give have a lengthy conversation with her about politics,
I bought a multicoulored print of bowie, quite a large pic actually. it now sits on my red bedroom wall above my bed. It's like weird actually. because as I go to sleep he's staring down at me from the pic you see, and as I watch it looks like he closes and opens his eyes. yeh I actually see his eyes move from closed to open and from open to closed. it was a bit freaky actually. anyway I've kind of got used to it now.
