Sorry, do not like the new layout, mainly because there are no dates on show. So you can't tell if you have read the post already. I feel I am wasting time re reading posts and navigating the board. Sorry to be so negative. Why were the changes made, out of interest.
I like the fact you can see the stats at the bottom and wondered why that ever disappeared, but I'd also like to see who last posted and time date. The box on the other end does tell you whether there are new posts or not - whether it is white or black.
I like the fact you can do a rating, as long as doesn't turn into some kind of negative competition.

The dates are all there, just use the Recent Posts on the top right. I'll put dates back on throughout.
I thought I had explained why in the news item. I changed it because there are a lot of new facilities and it would be good to see what they did and get member's feedback. To recap....
You may notice some other changes - If you like/dislike them post in the Other Stuff forum.
Registered users can now make calendar entries. This can be used to notify all of important events. You can go back to 1950 to put in Geldof's birthday if you like.
The registration process has been simplified. No need for email verification.
It is also possible to tag threads so that if you want to see all threads relating to songs, just click on songs (though it does require the poster to put the tag on). It can be used to highlight threads which contain Video or Audio etc.
Also threads can now be rated.
I have got rid of some of the information like number of views, last post etc, to make it faster to load and have more posts on a page. If you like to see this type of, just go to Recent Posts where it retains the old format.
I like the fact you can do a rating, as long as doesn't turn into some kind of negative competition.
I did consider that. However, I thought that it may be a useful way of weeding out the less interesting threads if you were looking back over the history. Obviously, it will be reviewed and if the ratings seem unreasonable, it will be turned off.
Similarly I thought I might have the tags for admin only, but it's probably better to have the poster and the audience decide for themselves what is relevant. There have been a number of duplicate threads recently as the search isn't that great, so I see it as a means of seeing all the relevant information and resurecting threads, rather than starting new ones where the topic has already been discussed.
Also I changed the rankings a bit. Some may like them, some may not. But in lieu of any alternative (the varied prefixes to Rat seemed pretty lame), they can stay for now.
All suggestions/comments should be put in this thread.
But surely it is for the audience to decide what is the most interesting? What might be very interesting to one might be a lot of old bore to another! Some people may be (unwittingly) influenced by ratings and miss out on something which they might actually want to have read for themselves.

Err, that's the point of them. If you see a thread you think is worth reading mark it high, if not mark it low. The audience is deciding. The more things get rated the more you know whether or not the thread is of interest. I suspect most people who look in the board will read everything anyway, it's not like there's that much to read. I think it is worth seeing how it goes for a while, it can easily be removed.
I meant individuals really to decide for themselves. The group on the whole may think something is brilliant, I might think otherwise, but might be put off reading it. Ah well let's try it.

I agree with Scottie and Jules - a bit confusing, at least at first. So far you could have a very quick glance and see immediately what was new - and especially where (some sections I read more regularly than others). OK, one more click now, but then the threads come up in a chronological order (not listed in sections). Ah well, I guess I could get used to it.

I think that's a nice thing. Might attract young users. To be honest I don't see where I would use it (countdown to a show? Hmmm... You know we all know Bob's birthday by heart... )

Do you think the registration process has kept people from getting registered before?

That's useful, I like that. But we'll have to use the same tags (or correct them, if we see "bad" tags), otherwise it might not work. Example - someome would tag a thread "concerts", another one "concert", a third person "show" and a fourth "gigs".
Also threads can now be rated.
I haven't found where to rate yet! Can you tell me how to do it, ArrGee?
Something else I've noticed - I can subscribe to threads. Is that new too or have I never noticed that before?
BTW Geldof was born in 1951 not 1950!!! He wouldn't be too impressed with you ArrGee....
I had put in the day he was born in 1951. What I meant to say was the calendar goes back to 1950, so you can put things in after that like Geldof's birthday. Don't reckon he is that impressed with me anyway.

The way I saw it been used was for TV/Radio/Talks/Cancelled Concerts, pretty much any appearance. You could even go back in time and put in gigs you went to with reviews. Basically anything you'd put in a noraml diary that is Rats/Geldof related.

Something else I've noticed - I can subscribe to threads. Is that new too or have I never noticed that before? When you read the thread, at the top right of the first post are five stars. Click on the star you consider most appropriate.
Subscribing to threads has been around for a while, like the news items, just something that gets added every now and again.

That's not always the case. The box for 'other stuff' was black & when I checked recent posts you had made one Monday but I hadn't seen it yet. As I use the net in work I always log off so no one else had been checking stuff... not that they would as I'm the lone Geldof fan

I agree with most of the comments, so I have undone a lot of the changes with regards to the display of last post/views/replies/ratings. It was OK before and since it ain't broke there's no need to fix it.
Yes I am. All my friends & workmates think I'm mad. But I'm meeting Jules at the weekend when she is in Dublin so it will be great to have someone on my wavelength to talk too.
P.S thanks for fixing the dates.

I haven't bothered mentioning him at work - no-one seems to be that into music and they aren't particularly aware of the other issues. My friends, of course, know, but most of them aren't interested in him. So it will be great to have a discuss him with another fan again.
We are leaving at 3 am, so will be going to be bed shortly!!! It's a bit light...
I think all who run this site are a gift, without which we'ed all be mumbling into our pint glasses.... But I'm absent minded and the 'edit' facility on posts is gone!!!!! and it is a must....HELP. nick
