Or did I just buy it 100,000 timesbiggrin.  Actually, no I didn't, but that does surprise me.

I guess that answers the question to what we think is the next most heard of Rats track - Banana Republic.

I don't know, Clockwork sold as many copies if not more.  Yesterday is perhaps the most famous Beatles song (certainly the most covered), yet was not released as a single in the sixties in the UK.

I'm not surprised DITHON sold so many copies. Remember it was released after Band Aid/ Live Aid.

Geldof has been on record to say that some of his solo album's have done much better (Sold more) Than some of the rats album. but he fails to point out what rats album his solo stuff sold more than. If he is talking about V.Deep or ITLG I'd under stand that. But not the rest of the albums

Although Deep In The Heart of Nowhere got a gold disc, this was based on orders rather than sales.  It's lack of a chart position reflects the likely sales, i.e. poor.

Mondo Bongo also got a gold disc for similar reasons, but again it's appearance in the bargain bins suggest that it was down to orders rather than sales.

The others are more realistic.  I don't have the figures of all the sales (I did post them somewhere)  but for Mondays vs. Rat Trap I believe the actual scores in the UK were 730,000 vs. 685,000 which is not as big a difference as you might expect.

Shows how bad my memory is, but it does show Rat Trap did sell closer to Mondays than you might expect...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_singles_of_the_1970s_in_the_United_Kingdom

"I Don't Like Mondays" Boomtown Rats 855,000

"Rat Trap" Boomtown Rats 750,000

And the biggest seller by Geldof is

"Do They Know It's Christmas?" - Band Aid 3,550,000

Number two of all time in the UK.
