I like both songs. I think Walking Down Town was written in 1984 so it could not have appeared on V Deep but it would have suited the mood of that album.

Anybody looking for amusement should watch Jazz Club from the Fast Show - all the sketches are available on Youtube...fantastic!

Got to be honest and say these are two of my least favourite Rats' tracks.

Fair play to them for experimenting and proving their versatility, but for me it didn't work. Doesn't 'get' to me at any level I'm afraid, musically or lyrically. Even Charmed Lives made sufficient impression that I actively disliked it...these two just leave me completely indifferent.

I think Jazz is wanker music as it it very self indulgent.  Country is just sh!t, bar one or two exceptions.  Metal if done well is good (I'm thinking Motorhead, Iron Maiden and AC/DC) and poor old U2, they used to be good.  Before Bono got the sunglasses.

 I think its a really good track too Ian. The opening has a fifties, jazzy chord progression rather than the whole song. Am I the only person who appreciates that wasted, cynical feel in the lyrics that  I feel is a real indicator of Bob Geldof and a lot of the Rats music. Its lyrically a companion piece to So Strange, The Bitter End, Late Last Night, Skin On Skin. Think I've listened to the songs often enough and took note of the lyrics to notice this.

I though Geldof's late night ramble through Junkie Town as interesting subject matter well executed and musically complex with lots going on. Perhaps the lines "We eat  well, we sleep well and that's saying something these days..." contrasted the bands fortunes in the latter days with the less lucky drug addicts all around.

I'll be contriversal and say I think its more interesting than Mondays- or at least less familiar.

The Little Death again is a drug themed song full of the same detached feel- looking on from the outside. Anyway appreciation is in the eye of the beholder. If I was to choose a dull Rats song it may be Precious Time but for me there are few really "bad" tracks. If the band hadn't made a huge impression on me I wouldn't be here writing about them today.
