Pete Doherty - Poet or Pothead?

Anyone watch the BBC3 documentary?

Couldn't help laughing all the way through and I like the Libertines, but Pete being the Bob Dylan/Kurt Cobain of this generation?  Is that for real?

Still fair dues to anyone who can put fcuk, cnut and div in the same tune!

http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/What-A-Waster-lyrics-The-Libertines/1320C85DABDB6CFF48256E270030783C

What a waster, what a fcuking waster
You pissed it all up the wall
Round the corner where they chased her

There's tears coming out from everywhere
The city's hard, the city's fair
Get back inside you've got nothing on
No you mind yer bleedin own you two bob cnut

Oh I really wanna know
So tell me, where does all the money go
where does all the money go
Straight, straight up her nose

What a divvy what a fcuking div
Talking like a moron, walking like a spiv
I was laying in bed paying my rent
Knocking on the door for something

And if that's not enough from the Byron of our age.....

And they all get them out for
(they all get them out)
The boys in the band
(only for the boys in the band)

Crikey, it makes Another Piece of Red look profound

well the lyrics you included isn't exactly something that would make me throw my panties on stage...(figure of speech ) I do hope this isn't considered to be his finest work, cause then...what's his worst?

oh, and kurt cobain and bob dylan? (oh yes, alot of people will disagree with this one...) what's so good about them? never really got what all the fuss is about... but then, I never really got the fuss about Shakespeare either..

What a Waster is perhaps the Libertines most famed song (debut single), covered by Adam Green, and a blueprint for their sound.

Personally I like the Libertines (and Babyshambles, though not as much), but as someone said recently the credibility of Doherty and his free spirited Albion and Arcadia, doesn't really sit well with his relationship with Kate Moss nor his well-to-do background.  More like the Geldof of his generation than the Dylan

Still have a listen! Sometimes it's good, (though there are pretty poor moments)

2nd Album - Music When The Lights Go Out/Can't Stand me Now

http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=931081

1st Album  - Time 4 Heroes/Up The Bracket/Death On The Stairs/What a Waster

http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=87099

PS And probably the only support band I have ever seen that made it big! (well, biggish!).  Saw them twice in a week as support to Morrissey & Supergrass.

since I have some time tomorrow I'm going to the recordstore, if I can find it in my heart to forgive Doherty for murdering Children of the Revolution at Live8 I might get one of their albums instead of Bowie's Heathen...I'll just sleep on it...

You could just buy the latest Franz Ferdinand album. The best second album since Tonic for the Troops!

(alternatively check out http://www.franzferdinand.org  http://www.franzferdinand.net for a pile of free downloads and streams, including The Scissor Sisters with Ze Franz, performing the Bowie classic 'Suffragette City' !!! )

oh come on, don't do this to me! I cannot be liking any more bands than I allready do...why, oh, why couldn't I be into origami instead of music...if I was I'd be so much richer oh well, come october 1st...sweet pay-day..

btw, the scissor sisters! that's a BIG no-no! I promised myself not to listen to them ever again after what they did to Comfortably Numb...how could they? (god, I'm trying to imagine what damage they could do to Suffragette City...)

but once again, thank you so much for the links...I'll have a listen later on..
