so, just been listening to pink floyd, i think i have to hand it to bloke singers that when they sing well, they sing so ****ing beautifully it brings tears to ones eyes. I have to say that lead singer of boomtown rats also has one of those soulful voices that really kind a hit ya! Voices that speak soul.
I wish i could say it in quite the same vien about women but i dont think i can..........now WHY is that dya think???

I mean i like joan armatrading too, but then she apparently is a lesbian........ n shes one of my fave female singers...... then theres aretha franklin who is pretty cool too, now shes not a lesbian but has sort of bollocks for a woman........... then theres erm who else, ok now i'm struggling............not many really, i mean i always thought debbie harry was pretty coooool, erm who else, let me think.............yeh chrissie hynde was ok................but seriously today;s female singers all sound the ****ing same, really kind of pathetic! ok well u know me now i love to have my rant! ;0)

American singer Joanna Newsom is really good. Her first album The Milk Eyed Mender from 2004 is utterly brilliant and possibly her best work. The nearest equivalent to her is Kate Bush, they are in the same ballpark musically.
Good introductory songs are Sprout and The Bean or The Book of Right On which can be found on Youtube.
I find it not too hard to find interesting new music-just check Pitchfork which is about the best site for offbeat music worth finding.
I know that if I wanted to I could set myself a task of finding maybe five or even ten really good bands in a week just to prove there is good music out there.
