Short three minuite feature on Youtube featuring David Mallet and Bob The Gob talking about the video for I Don't Like Mondays. Mallet was the director who had previously directed Bowie's Ashes To Ashes video as well as loads of other Bowie videos from the late seventies.
Mallet says a big infliunce of the video was the movie Children Of The Damned which coincidentally I watched last week. The scary children with the staring eyes was used in the classroom scenes to good effect and there is no need to pretend the idea came from anywhere elso except the classic movie Children Of The Damned. Geldof claims the more domestic scenes of the Rats on the sofa's was influinced by Coronation Street. And I thought it was all high art!
Good idea to keep up date with The Boomtown Rats on Youtube as it seems the art of new film/ stuff surfacing is all but dead.
