Why dreamed up this silly 'game'? It just confuses me.

I think the likelihood is that a lot of people who like the Rats started out listening to music in the late seventies, during the punk explosion and 'punk' or 'new wave'  bands formed the template of how music should sound.

It is completely possible to like one punk band and dislike another for so many different reasons, a lot of those reasons being largely emotional reactions.

I'm always a bit 'stumped' when people claim to like the Boomtown Rats and then list a whole load of weird bands with no obvious similarity as their favourites as well. However the punk/new wave route is just one on the many paths people who discover the Rats music may take. Younger people  may just have bought the greatest hits (nothing wrong with that) while others may have just heard Mondays or Rat Trap on the radio and taken it   from there.

I thought it was funny to see Samantha Fox, Placido Domingo and Agnetha Faltskog so close.
