Rats - Fridays, 1980!

Assuming most have seen this clip, I only discovered it last night

The Rats playing live on the Friday's Show in America, 1980 - excellent versions of 'Someone's Looking At You' & 'Mondays'

Also just to revisit a classic - Mary! Live Geldof - great song, I worked with the famous Mary P before she retired a few years ago

A lot of the Rats performances were mimed, especially TOTP appearances, due to some weird thing to do with musicians unions rights, so it's always better to hear live versions, as in this case.

I always find it a bit difficult when Bobs 'new' band cover old Rats songs- they never seem to have the real sense of the energy or passion of the original Boomtown Rats, so listening back to old concert recordings always seems more satisfying and vital.

Naturally it's a different story with Geldof's band doing solo Geldof stuff, as this is the band that recorded the songs, and it is an authentic experience, so to speak.

Fantastic performance of these 2 songs, Bob overflowing with emotion and charisma, sounding slightly more nasal and with slight echo on it - improves them both.

I am just discovering some of the old concerts recordings and they are brilliant, full of the humour and energy of the time and take me right back to 1981 when I first saw them and was captivated.
