Rats warm up show?

I would imagine that the  reunited Rats will play a warm up gig or two prior to their IOW appearance. Most bands do prior to touring/festivals and i would imagine its even more important bearing in mind that Bob and Pete will be joining in.

These type of gigs are usually very low key and notification is not widespread. I've been to 3 gigs of this type to see Squeeze (once when they had just reformed prior to Guilfest and the others prior to their tours). In Squeeze case, they played small club type venues.

I wonder where the Rats would play a warm up gig  - maybe old haunts - anyone know what they were?. And importantly how would we find out?

Yes, was wondering the same thing! That would be great - hopefully they would let us know through forum somehow ... Then they would get a nice friendly audience to practice on!

A couple of options I can envisage

i) Surprise support slots

ii) West Country pubs like The Pig's Nose Inn

There are people in the know hereabouts on this forum.  Not me I hasten to add, my bridges are burnt in that respect.

The last time they did four warm up gigs ahead of Rebellion. I'd probably discount a return to Clitheroe or Wolverhampton, but I'd suggest a return to The 100 Club is unlikely if they do play London.

Summer Tour 2008

Saturday 26th July 2008- Pigs Nose Inn, East Prawl, Devon

Monday 4th August 2008 - Key Street Music Bar, Clitheroe

Wednesday 6th August 2008- The Robin, Bilston, Wolverhampton, WV14 7LJ

Thursday 7th August 2008 (+ THE VIBRATORS) 100 Club, 100 Oxford Street, London W1

Friday 8th August 2008- Rebellion Festival, Empress Ballroom, The Winter Gardens, Church Street, Blackpool.

How about the Rat Inn, Anick, Northumberland?

I'm not sure how warm up shows work. Does a famous band just gatecrash a pub, or are fans tipped off in advance. The same with support slots. Certainly the Irish Centre Corby, Northants is a possibility. Bob cannot pass up the chance to read the Irish newspapers there and see is there any 'starts' on the local building sites, practice some Irish dancing and get some cheap pints of Beamish Irish stout, and get some advice from the Catholic priest there as well.smile.gif

Sometimes you get a tip off.  Work colleague saw Pete Doherty in pub the other weekend thanks to a fan forum tip off.  The Pig's Nose Inn is local to Garry, Simon and Darren, so a chance they will do something like that.  That's what they did last time...

Irish Centre Corby is off.  but The Great British Alternative Festival, Minehead in April is on.

Wouldn't surprise me if any such gig happened overseas, away from UK press and any spotlight, a la Stones in Paris. Rats and Geldof seem to command a following in Germany for one, and I suppose it does need to somewhere with an enthusiastic crowd, even if small, otherwise they may as well perfect it in a studio.

Would be great if it was a low key UK venue though.

Selfishly I'd like London. Somewhere like Half Moon Putney would be great, but would go pretty much any place, provided given enough notice to get there.

Me too.  I doubt it would be outside England, mainly because of the cost.  I think west country is most likely, as that's where half the band live and more importantly work.

That southDevon pub is possibly closer to us than Garry smile, but take your point. A late May BH weekend gig somewhere by the sea. We should start a petition.

I know it's somewhere out west along with Simon and Darren.  Bob is in Chelsea and I believe Pete is somewhere in the London suburbs, I know nothing of Alan.

But I believe the warm ups would be more likely to be way out west.  But there is always the chance that Geldof won't get in his limo.  It wasn't so good for him the last time  (I Am Bob)

Should anyone see The Nightlife Thugs appearing anywhere, let me know.

Also look out for Mark Skid and the Y Fronts.

Garry lives in Worcestershire in the midlands, not the West country, same with Darren I believe. I think Pete lives in Ealing, or somewhere in west London suburbs.

 Max Headroom etc.

I know where they live, but was a bit vague. I don't want them to think I'm stalking them biggrin.    Geldof is very well known for living in Chelsea hance no need to be vague on that.
