There is a major new Hollywood version of The Lone Ranger due out soon, starring Johnny Depp. This song might make a good choice for the soundtrack, but no doubt the Yanks will mess it up with some overproduced poodle rock nonsense as they usually do. But Johhny Depp has good taste in music, to be fair to him.
I still think Alphabet Town was a better song, but like most things with a Rats connection it's hard not to like.
Hi Suss & Noel...little anecdote (if I may)..I bought both Ballad of the Lone Ranger & Pioneers back in the day on vinyl..I spent many a holiday in County Cork staying at my relatives..I was seeing a lovely Millstreet lass & she loved the Boomtown Rats..I gave her both my Gerry Cott singles (to win her favour)...I said it would be easy to get copies at home in Liverpool...little did I know that I would be unable to do so..tried to this day..wish Gerry would re-release them on CD!

Both these songs got a bit of airplay on what was RTE Radio 2, now 2FM back in the day. You can get them online from Discogs, on of the best sites for vinyl, as well as GC's 5 track ep I Left My Hat In Haiti. I'm sure Gerry would be flattered to know that you tried to woo someone with a brace of his singles lol.
No problem. Glad you enjoyed it and love the assoicated story.
Single turns up on eBay fairly frequently e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gerry-Cott-ballard-of-the-lone-ranger-7-boomtown-rats-/380339093490?pt=UK_Records&hash=item588df9fff2
But as Noel says there are good sites for tracking down vinyl. Musicstack is another favourite of mine.
Gerrys single Pioneers has just turned up on You Tube, I've wanted to hear that again for years, its an excellent track. I wouldn't mind hearing the b sides for the singles he released.
