RAM Gigs in doubt?

Rats listings for Garry/Simon band are no longer posted under their own name.

Class of 77 gigs for FTJ are still (currently) listed with Rats, but Blockheads ones for same dates are not. c

From memory the commitments were Minehead 26/4, Leamington 13/9 and Cambridge 14/9, but might well be worth checking with venues to ensure G/S band on the bills. I'm guessing they aren't. Wasn't going to Minehead myself but if others are maybe they can confirm, or perhaps official site will.

Suppose there was the danger that people looking for 'Boomtown Rats live' online might land there and buy for those gigs in expectation it's the reunited band. Or maybe the workload with reunited band just make the other gigs less manageable.

No mention of the Rats, I'd say none of the RAM dates will happen.

If the reformed Rats are going to play 6 or 7 dates in Oz/Nz then surely they can play much more gigs at home. Geldof has claimed that the money offered was pretty good, he has stated this a few times in recent interviews.

It's hard to see two different versions of the band playing at the same time. The RAM years were far from a disaster but I'm not sure how it will go from here. Have any other bands been a similar situation? How long will the Rats comeback last?

Aren't Status Quo doing something similar?

I've no idea about Status Quo Suss, they are well off my radar. It's hard to see a RAM version of the Rats with Roberts and Crowe around when the original line up is back playing live. We really need to see how things go in Oz, IOW,Cork, and Devon over the summer to even guess how things will pan out.

If the summer goes well then I can see further autumn dates this year on a more extensive level. Ideally this would be spiced up with a few new songs possibly eventually leading to a new album at some stage. But a couple of weeks ago we could only have dreamed of the Rats playing together again, so speculating too much into the future is a bit futile.

Haven't checked but I thought Rossi and Parfitt stayed on the road with a couple of others over last few years, into this year, at same time as original 4 agreed to line up again for a few gigs. With you though Noel - 15 mins at Live Aid was enough for me.

As for the Rats, I see the 'new' Rats gigs are now off the official website. Would have been nice to have this highlighted and possibly reasons given, for those attending the gigs (which will go ahead I'm sure) expecting to see Rats, but don't suppose it will be.

I rely on this site for the facts in the main.

I don't think the Rats will play without Geldof for the foreseeable future.

LOL, this is the rumour mill, as you well know I have no inside information at all.

Hi Suss,

Yes, there are 2 Status Quo bands both including Rossi & Parfitt. There is also a 3rd Quo band 'John Coghlan's Quo'.

Regarding the Boomtown Rats Roberts & Crowe gigs, the band has been advised to withdraw from them so to avoid any possible confusion with The Boomtown Rats gigs. They are sorry if this means some people will be disappointed, but it is unavoidable.

Thanks BTR, and apologies for whingeing about official site. Was just acutely aware gigs had dropped off but without that being spelled out it might not get noticed.

Appreciate you can't go into reasons on the official site though, which is why I made the comment about this site carrying more details and facts.

Which gigs are you lined up for? Be good to see you.
