Vicar Street they are VERY strict. No videos, only still pics, no flash. They kept annoying Gwen and I last time. Don't know about other venues.

Yes and at another gig in Vicar Street I was asked was I recording or taking stills and when I said stills I was left alone but told not to take videos. I had to warn a friend who was recording to be careful and luckily he didn't get caught!

Yeah, having my picture taken, but that's not the point. I don't ask the Japanese tourists why they're clicking and filming all day long without seeing anything on their worldwide tours. At least they have 10.000 pictures to look at when they're back home again in Tokyo... yawn .

I just want to tape some memories and because a BTR 2013 gig is such a special opportunity for me (never have thought that they ever will be on tour again) that I want my own made recordings. I don't know if the Rats are going to tape some of the gigs themselves (can imagine that it's to expensive if you don't know how many people will actually buy a DVD), so that's why I am asking this question. It would be a nice gesture if the Rats allow their fans to tape.

It is striking that a lot of people complaining about visitors who are "smartphone recording" are the first ones to watch YouTube the next day blankstare .

Agreed. Personally I think they shouldn't be used at a concert, but then others think the opposite. Of course I do watch the recordings, but a bit of consideration wouldn't go amiss from the people in front of me who think it's fine to obstruct my view with their iPhone for most of the performance.

I agree. It's that old question of give and take. To me it's not a problem if people want to make some recordings for a few minutes (as I want to do) just for saving some memories, but if they're doing it during the complete concert I can understand why the security asks these people to leave the venue. But at the same time I want to ask the security if they can force people to leave if they are continuously talking loud without listening or continuously walking (if they can) to get loads of beer...

I watch it the next day so I can see what I should have seen without the phone in my way. I do take a couple of snaps, but that's it. No one should have their phone out at a gig, football match, cinema nor theatre. And it is fcuking rude to keep checking your Tw@tface messages when you are down the pub or out at a restaurant. I may be boring the ar$e off whomever I'm with, but at least I'm there.

When I go to a play or the cinema, I don't expect the person in front to record it to have a memory of it. What's wrong with actual memories?

I remember concerts from the 1970s. Particularly the smell of dope, happy days...

I do agree with it being annoying to have too many distractions at concerts etc. I went to a Midge Ure concert locally a few years back and the teenager sat beside us was just texting his mates all through it - just so hard to focus on the stage with light shining next to you. I mean why bother going ... well I think his mum had made him, but even so, can't people be parted from their gadgets just for an hour or so. It's the equivalent of a baby sucking its dummy!

Similar to checking email, many psychologists and experts have long said that the brain gets a slight dopamine hit when people see a new message or e-mail. When you see you have a new email you dont know who its from or what its about, e.g., how gratifying the message will be so you hope for that dopamine hit youll get if its good. Same goes for those mobile alerts and text messages and, yes, forum updates...

Another reason many check their phones is because of social expectations - the social expectation of availability. People tend to think that their friends are more likely to chide them for not responding promptly, than for being too attached to their phone.

Agree it's annoying, but like other people coughing or sneezing, swearing, talking on a mobile when driving, throwing a sickie, telling porkies, we hate it when we see it, we expect others to overlook it if we do it.

I rarely record at concerts but do take a lot of photos. However this is with my camera and not a phone! I use the viewfinder on my camera so I don't disturb my neighbours and have all sounds and lights on the camera off! I never, ever use a phone or camera in the cinema. One can live without social media for a few hours and I also never use them at shows or plays. I did however make an exception to that rule when Roger Taylor and Brian May both appeared on stage at the end of We Will Rock You. It was quiet funny actually when the up to that moment well behave audience who had taken no photos and then hundreds of phones and cameras appeared biggrin I have friends who know how to discreetly record at concerts and I am very happy for them to do so because we have some exceptional footage of concerts. I would love if we had someone in the Rats community who could discreetly record lots of the songs from the upcoming gigs in Vicar Street!

That's just the way I meant, so now we're talking. Better if we are sure the BTR themselves or the BBC will record some live footage in HD, but if not I'll try to record some songs and try not to disturb my neighbours... After the gig (and hopefully many encores) I'll give my neighbours the name of my YouTube Channel and they'll buy me some beers or Jack Daniels of course. All is well that ends well...

I did expect a Geldof live DVD from his last tour. There were a load of cameras at the Cadogan Hall gig yet nothing ever came of it.

I have Whyteleafe 2010 on DVD, but sadly not the distribution rights. But I'm sure one of our forum members could assist....
