NME 100 Greatest British Albums Ever!

http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/nme_writers.htm#Greatest%20British%20Albums

Personally, I think the exclusion of Kilimanjaro from the Teardrop Explodes is inexcusable!  Also the list is skewed towards the current day.  I wonder what a top 100 Irish albums would look like?

Ones that are in my collection, only missing the Arctic Moneys in the top ten because I haven't got it yet....

  • 1. The Stone Roses – The Stone Roses

  • 2. The Smiths – The Queen Is Dead

  • 3. Oasis – Definitely Maybe

  • 4. Sex Pistols – Never Mind....

  • 6. Blur – Modern Life Is Rubbish

  • 7. Pulp – Different Class

  • 8. The Clash – London Calling

  • 20. The Beatles – Rubber Soul

  • 22. Super Furry Animals – Radiator

  • 25. The Kinks – The Village Green Preservation Society

  • 26. The Smiths – Hatful Of Hollow

  • 30. Suede – Suede

  • 33. Coldplay - Parachutes

  • 35. Radiohead – Ok Computer

  • 36. The Beatles – The Beatles

Again knock out Oasis and Blur and it would be worthy

Do the Sex Pistols really deserve the no. 4 slot? I've got that album (twice on LP, one yellow, one pink and on CD) and I love it, but I'm sure it should be around no. 30? Great to see both my home town bands featuring in that chart.

Radiohead/Supergrass?

Manchester claims the top three spots, Sheffield two top ten, and London has three top ten(four if you include Blur, who are hail from Essex, though Albarn was born in London). Ceratinly London and Manchester dominate, and Sheffield is well represented (ABC, Human League, and two of Pulp's finest moments)

Interestingly, given its reputation, Liverpool appears to have just three acts in the top 100 [Beatles (incl. Georg Harrison solo) , The La's & The Bunnymen].  Julian Cope (who made it) hails from Tamworth, even if the Teardrop Explodes (who didn't) were based in Liverpool, and Elvis Costello is actually a Londoner rather than a scouser.

Most interesting, no Irish band make it.  The Undertones & Ash hail from Ulster and should probably have one album in there.  Even the Pogues who come from the south east don't register.

Yes, Radiohead and Supergrass are my homegrown bands Adds some variety to the usual Liverpool/London/Manchester.

And I agree, I'm surprised about no Irish bands (as in Northern Ireland). Maybe those voting thought they came from Eire??

I'm sure there were many who were worthy and didn't make it, whereas some managed two.

It was the NME writers who voted for this.  Perhaps they all come from London, Manchester & Sheffield!

Maybe I should have my top 100 British Albums on here

  1. His 'n' Hers

  2. Franz Ferdinand

  3. Slayed?

  4. Kilimanjaro

  5. Pills 'n' Thrills.....

  6. The Stone Roses

  7. Aladdin Sane

  8. Bolan Boogie

  9. Dog Man Star

  10. The Bends

(I better stop here!)

Only trouble is the order!

I think it would be impossible to try and order favourite bands/singers/songs. There are always one or two who stand out (obvious ones for everyone here) but then how do you put the rest in order? It just is not possible. And I'm sure it would exceed 100, well in my case it would that's for sure. Especially tracks!
