BBC 5 Live Nicky Campbell Breakfast Phone In

This seems to have been a feature of a few radio phone ins. Not listened to any myself. Seeing all the criticism on FB is enough.

The increased criticism over '84 shows what sort of a complaint-centric country we have become. Whether it's the Jubilee, the Olympics, Band Aid, the Government, transport, weather - you name it, out come the armchair critics, foaming at the mouth, fulminating about motive, cost, presentation etc but wholly devoid in most cases of a solution of their own.

Where they think they have a (generally poorly thought through, impractical) solution, they are astonished nobody has tried to implement it and often disappear down the route of paranoia and secret gangs at work (see virtually any post on David Icke's forum).

Make up your own mind and be happy with it. Just because someone puts forward a view, doesn't mean they genuinely hold it, either. I'd say a lot of it is attention seeking nonsense.

I've listened to the arguments on this one and know what my settled position is. You can probably guess it. I shan't post again in this topic.

A few of the callers were asking why all the rich pop stars can't just give their money directly, rather than asking the public to contribute,and then 'basking' in the reflected glory of their goodwill. Maybe that's a fair point? It's the 'ego feed' for the pop stars they tend to dislike, more than the cause itself.

Reminds me of being in Boots in London and being asked would I like to donate to Children In Need? Why don't Boots just give some of their vast profits directly, rather then asking their customers, and then getting the 'glory' for having contributed? I resent being asked for money almost everywhere I go. You can't walk anywhere in Dublin without some chugger rattling a tin can at you.
