So, TOTP is to be no more. A sad passing. I used to sit in front of the TV, screaming at the Beatles and you will of course remember the Rats at No 1. I used to love all the old DJs, Jimmy Saville, Tony Blackburn etc. They were all mad.

It's had its day though. Those were the days, the ones you describe with DLT, Noel Edmunds etc. It was always a bit different then. Now (not that I had watched it for years) it seemd no different from other modern musics shows and the presenters seemed as bland.

I'll always remember it for introducing me to the Rats in 1977 fond memories

* 1978: The Boomtown Rats, the first of the New Wave bands to appear on Top of the Pops, were so pleased with their achievement of knocking the Grease duo John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John from the number-one spot they tore up pictures of Travolta during their performance of Rat Trap.

Jarvis Cocker once commented that he considered himself a failure until he appeared on the show. The Kinks even named one of their songs after the programme.

it such a shame.it used to be so good.but the fact is even people like me, who have watched every week without fail since i knew what music was, just couldn't put up with the rubbish they play on there now.so many great bands out there but they never seemed to make an appearance.

LOL I was talking about before you were born Tango , but it is interesting that you've seen a change too over, perhaps, the last 10 years or so? It must have really lost it.

Ah yes, I see you can appreciate how it was in the 70s and 80s and what the mad DJs were like
